Frequently Asked Questions
Is this notebook durable enough for a younger student who is rough on supplies?
Yes. The water-resistant plastic front cover protects pages from backpack spills, and the Spiral Lock wire prevents the binding from bending or catching on clothing.
Can I buy a 6-pack to outfit all my kids for the school year at once?
Yes. The 6-pack option is designed for parents stocking multiple students, and each notebook includes 150 college-ruled sheets and three subject dividers.
Will the cover hold up if it gets wet in a lunchbox or cafeteria?
Yes. The front cover is water-resistant plastic, so accidental splashes wipe away without soaking through to the pages inside.
Is the paper safe and non-toxic for kids who handle it all day?
Yes. The paper is SFI certified, meaning it comes from responsibly managed sources, and the binding materials are standard for school notebooks.
Can my child tear out a homework page cleanly without ripping the whole notebook?
Yes. The pages are perforated for clean tear-out, so removing one page does not damage the spiral or the surrounding sheets.
Is this a good back-to-school purchase for a high school freshman?
Yes. The 3-subject layout, college-ruled paper, and full 8.5" x 11" size match what most high school teachers require, and the durability handles daily backpack use.
Will my middle schooler be able to use this, or is it too advanced?
It works for middle school too. College-ruled paper gives more writing space per page, which is helpful for students who write a lot of notes or longer answers.
Is the Spiral Lock wire safe — could it scratch my child?
The wire is designed to sit flush with the cover and not protrude, so it does not catch on skin, clothes, or backpack fabric during normal use.
How does this compare to a composition notebook for younger students?
A composition notebook has no dividers and no tear-out pages, and the binding can be uncomfortable to write on near the spine. This notebook offers subject dividers, perforated pages, and a more comfortable writing surface.
Is it better than a basic 1-subject spiral for a student juggling multiple classes?
Yes. The 3-subject dividers keep each class in its own section, so your child is not carrying three separate notebooks or losing loose papers between them.
How does this compare to a digital tablet for a student?
Many schools still require handwritten work, and handwriting supports memory and focus. This notebook gives you the paper experience plus optional app-based digital backup, without the screen-time concerns of a tablet.
What if my child fills it up before the year is over?
The Lasts All Year guarantee covers normal use, and 150 sheets is sized for a full semester. If your child runs out early, the 6-pack option is a cost-effective backup.
Will the ink bleed and make my child's notes unreadable?
No. The paper is ink-bleed resistant, so pen and marker notes stay legible on both sides of the page without ghosting.
Can I color-code notebooks for each child using the available colors?
Yes. The notebook comes in up to six colors, including Fire Red, Blue, Pacific Blue, Black, Green, White, Amethyst Purple, and Prom Pink, so you can assign a color per student.
Is the cover flexible enough to fit in a standard backpack sleeve?
Yes. At 8.5" x 11" and built with a flexible plastic cover, it slides into most standard backpack pockets and laptop sleeves designed for letter-size paper.
Can my child use the pockets to keep permission slips and handouts organized?
Yes. The interior pockets are sized for 8.5" x 11" sheets, so permission slips, worksheets, and graded papers stay organized inside the notebook.
How do I set up the Five Star Study App with this notebook?
Download the Five Star Study App from the App Store or Google Play, create an account, and follow the on-screen prompts to scan the code inside the notebook. Once paired, you can scan any page and the app will organize it into searchable, flashcard-ready notes.
How do I tear out a page cleanly?
Fold the perforated edge back and forth a few times along the perforation, then tear slowly along the line. The page will come out at 8.5" x 11" with a clean edge.
How do I sync my notes to Google Drive?
Open the Five Star Study App, go to settings, and connect your Google Drive account. Once connected, any scanned pages will sync automatically, giving you cross-device access and backup.
Does this notebook work with any pen, or do I need a specific kind?
It works with any standard pen, including ballpoint, gel, and most rollerballs. The ink-bleed-resistant paper is designed to keep notes legible regardless of pen type.
Is the Five Star Study App compatible with iPhone and Android?
Yes. The app is available on both iOS and Android, so you can scan and sync notes from either platform.
What is included in the box?
You get one Five Star 3-Subject Spiral Notebook with 150 college-ruled sheets, 3 subject dividers, perforated pages, a water-resistant front cover, Spiral Lock wire binding, and interior pockets. The Study App is free to download separately.
Is this notebook safe for everyday handling?
Yes. The Spiral Lock wire is designed not to protrude, the cover is durable plastic, and the paper is SFI certified from responsibly managed sources.
Will the notebook hold up if it gets wet?
The water-resistant front cover protects against splashes and spills, but the pages inside are paper. Wipe the cover dry promptly and avoid submerging the notebook to keep pages safe.
What is the difference between this 3-subject notebook and a 1-subject or 5-subject notebook?
A 1-subject notebook holds one class or project, while a 5-subject notebook divides a smaller page count across more sections. This 3-subject notebook is a middle ground that gives each subject enough pages for a full semester without making the notebook too thick to carry.
